The term ‘e-sports’ refers to online multiplayer video games that are played competitively, often in huge international tournaments. These e-sports teams can even be bet on today. FaZe Clan was founded back in 2010 and has become a major presence in the e-sports world, with around 8.6 million subscribers to their name. In 2022, it went public with a valuation of acool $725 million.
OG is a European organisation that’s been active since 2015. The group specializes in Dota 2. Their teams even won the game’s international tournament in both 2018 and 2019. This was the first time an e-sports team won an international tournament two years in a row.
The organisation’s head coach for the Dota 2 branch is Evgenii "Chuvash" Makarov, a Russian professional player of the game. He’s been competing at the top level since 2018 and has earned $72,606 in prize money for himself.
It is also worth mentioning that OG also have another two competitive teams for two other games – CS:GO and Volarant.
This is an LA-based gaming organisation and lifestyle brand. It’s been up and running since 2017 when it was established by two e-sports enthusiasts: Dan Gilbert and Matthew ‘Nadeshot’ Haag. The organisation has several teams to their name for competitive gaming, for games like League of Legends, Call of Durty, and many more. The organisation has been very successful so far and posted an impressive $38 million in revenue in 2021.
One of the longest-running e-sports organisations around today is Team Liquid. Based in the Netherlands, this company has been in operation since 2000, way before e-sports exploded in popularity and became more of a mainstream event. For over a decade, the company focused on the game StarCraft II, before the decision was made to expand into other areas. Nowadays, there are Team Liquid divisions covering over a dozen major e-sports.
Another company that’s been around for quite a while is OpTic Gaming. This Texan e-sports and entertainment organisation was founded back in 2006 and is owned by Hector "H3CZ" Rodriguez. It has teams for five of the biggest e-sports competitions, though in the past it’s put forward teams for some other games too. It wasn’t until 2010, four years after its founding, that OpTic Gaming entered the professional gaming scene and took part in its first tournaments. The organisation has had many successes, particularly with Call of Duty games.
The e-sports industry is huge right now and its future looks very promising. Loads more new games are being developed and existing ones regularly have expansive new updates.
