Seth Manfield joins Team Envy as a MTG pro

Team Envy have decided to expand their portfolio of esports games they're involved in by signing Magic: The Gathering Hall of Famer and one of the most prominent names in the MTG esports scene Seth Manfield.

The announcement of Seth Manfield's signing to Envy surfaced on Thursday, February 6, on Envy's official Twitter page, which marked Envy's first entry into the MTG esports scene.

Seth Manfield is an American TGM professional player who started his career in 2007 when he made his debut at Pro Tour Geneva 2007. Since then he has established himself as one of the best MTG players in the world with an illustrious career, which saw him hoist numerous trophies.

His career-best achievement came in 2015, when Manfield triumphed at 2015 World Championship. Throughout his career, he also claimed five Grand Prix titles and the title of Pro Tour Champion. Due to his remarkable achievements, Manfield got inducted into the Magic: The Gathering Hall of Fame in 2018, which cemented him as one of the greats in MTG esports scene. As an interesting detail about Seth Manfield, he is a son of Ed Manfield, who is a world champion in Bridge - a trick-taking card game.

Seth Manfield will make an appearance at Magic World Championship XXVI, which is set to begin on February 14, 2020, featuring 16 of the best MTG players in the world, who will duke it out for the title and $1 million in prize pool, with a record $300,000 reserved for the champion.

By joining Envy, Seth Manfield has become a part of one of the biggest esports organizations in the world, which was also ranked as one of the top 10 most valuable esports franchises in the world by Forbes. In 2019 Envy ranked 51st in the list of top esports teams in tournament winnings with $543,681.48 under their belt. While far from the frontrunners in OG, Team Liquid and Lazarus, Envy has seen immense success across several esports titles and will now hope to leave a mark in the developing MTG esports scene as well.

Looking forward to 2020, Envy will count on their Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster, Call of Duty team (Dallas Empire), Overwatch squad (Dallas Fuel) and their Fortnite players to reach for the stars and help the esports organization grow in not only recognition but also help them pocket a respectable amount of money via tournament winnings.

Magic World Championship XXVI will take off next week on Friday, February 14 and last until Monday, February 17. At the event, we will see top 16 MTG players compete for the largest prize pool in MTG history in Theros: Beyond Death Booster Draft and Standard Constructed.

Seth Manfield will enter the World Championship as one of the favourites alongside Piotr Glogowski, Ondrej Strasky, Marcio Carvalho and the reigning world champion Javier Dominguez. If Seth Manfield manages to claim the spoils and becomes a two-time world champion, he would become the first player to achieve that feat in the history of the tournament, while also becoming the best-paid Magic: The Gathering player in the world - the title which is currently in possession of Andrea Mengucci, who has earned $290,800.00 in prize winnings in his career as MTG pro.
